To ensure an efficient management of institutional activities and to best enhance technical and scientific local resources, the Scientific and Technology Park of Liguria has been structured as a technological agency and usually delegates consulting activities to qualified external centres:
  • research institutes;
  • university departments;
  • consulting companies;
  • Professional offices which are selected on the base of public call for tenders.
From 1997 to 2002 the programme of the Park has been essentially aimed at performing the following activities:
  • The management of Action 3.7 of the Objective 2 Single Programming Document "Diffusion and transfer of Innovation". In December 1996 Liguria Region has approved the programme proposed by the Scientific Park, which was financed by the E.U. (50%), the Italian Government (35%) and the Liguria Region (15%).
  • The start up, a regional network to facilitate the on-line connection of many ligurian SMEs.
This will make available on the net a number of high added value innovative services which can improve the effectiveness and the competitiveness of local companies.
To realize this project together with Genoa University, a Project Financing Proposal was been submitted to the Ministry of University and Scientific Research.
A complete analysis has been completed for the technology clusters as specified in the Single Programming Document, Objective 2:
  • for the Province of Genoa: electronics, ecology, environment, biotechnology, biomedical sciences, ship/boat building;
  • for the Province of Savona: mechanics, chemicals, glass, engineering, ship/boat building;
  • for the Province of La Spezia: defence, ship/boat building;

The conditions currently besetting Liguria, marked by phenomena of downsizing and, in certain instances, by the all out dismantling of sites in steel, machine and shipbuilding industries, which for nearly a century represented cornerstones of the Region's economy, demand that the problems inherent to the development of the small and medium size enterprise system be faced in a methodical, fact-based and objective manner, also through the introduction of new technologies.
The main areas in which the PSTL will operate will be:
  • Agro-food safety and quality
  • Transports and logistic
  • Environment and sustainable development
  • New materials and Nan-technologies
  • Innovation in ICT
